Four Alberton speedsters arrested

Three suspects were arrested on Michelle Avenue and one suspect on Heidelberg Road.

EMPD high-speed unit conducted two operations in Alberton on April 6.

The first operation took place between 6am and 11am on Michelle Avenue between Blue Crane Drive and the R59 bridge.

During this time, EMPD arrested three suspects for driving well over the 60km/h speed limit.

The three men, aged 28, 29 and 38, were caught doing speeds of 111, 98 and 96km/h respectively.

They were taken to Brackendowns Police Station and posted R1 000 bail each.

The second operation took place in Alrode with EMPD stationed on Heidelberg Road between Dekenah Street and Arch Bridge between 11am and midday.

The road they were stationed on has a 70km/h speed limit.

One suspect, a 50-year-old man driving a white Audi A4, was clocked doing 103km/h.

The man claimed that he was rushing to buy tyres. The suspect was charged at Alberton Police Station with reckless and negligent driving.

All four suspects are expected to appear in Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court to face their charges.
