Car thieves arrested in Brackenhurst

Two suspects believed to be part of a car-stealing syndicate were arrested by CPS Security and Brackendowns SAPS.

ON July 9, a known suspicious vehicle was spotted by the CPS tactical team during a routine patrol.

The officers contacted Brackendowns SAPS for assistance. The police attempted to pull the silver Volkswagen Polo over at Dinamika High School, but the suspects sped off.

According to Tyron van der Merwe, sales director of CPS Security, a high-speed chase ensued around Brackenhurst during which the suspects jumped several stop streets and traffic lights. The officers managed to arrest two suspects who left the vehicle and fled on foot, but the rest of the suspects in the vehicle managed to escape. Several stolen items, as well as car break-in implements, were recovered.

According to van der Merwe, the suspects are known to be part of a syndicate that has been targeting vehicles around Alberton over the past few weeks.

“A job well done to our tactical team and a big thank you to Const Riaan Venter and Const Cendy Molophi,” said Van der Merwe.
