Man kills family with an axe

A man was arrested for allegedly killing three family members and critically injuring two others with an axe in Orange Farm, Extension One Lakeside on Sunday, Gauteng police said.

Independent Online reported, “The man, 25, allegedly hit his 60-year-old grandmother, two woman relatives aged 26 and 28-years-old, and two boy cousins aged 17 and 18 in the head with the axe, said Captain Disebo Selepe.”

“The 26 and 28-year-old women relatives died on the scene while the grandmother died on the way to hospital,” Selepe explained.

The two cousins were taken to a nearby hospital and were in a critical condition.

The man also allegedly attacked a six-year-old relative but she managed to escape unharmed, Selepe said.

The man fled the scene but was later arrested in Tembisa.  The motive for the attack was unknown.

He was expected to appear in the Vereeniging Regional Court soon.
