BRACKENDOWNS: Rietvlei parkrun was officially opened with Bruce Fordyce on Saturday November 30, 2013 at Rietvlei Zoo Farm.
Parkrun is free, it is every Saturday at 08:00, and it is a five kilometre timed event, taking place around the world every Saturday. Whether you walk or run, parkrun encourages you to bring your family and friends, young or old and come to enjoy some exercise outdoors in your community. Dogs on leads also welcome.
Parkruns are open to everyone and are safe and easy to take part in. Discovery Vitality member can earn 500 Vitality points every time they participate in a parkrun!
Parkrun is organized by volunteers. These events take place in pleasant parkland surroundings and people of every ability are encouraged to take part; from those taking their first steps in running to Olympians; from juniors to those with more experience. parkrun aims to have an event in every community that wants one.
The national sponsors are Discovery Vitality, Adidas and Blue Label Telecoms. The local sponsor for Rietvlei parkrun is Seeff Properties Jhb South.
On Saturday January 11, Bruce Fordyce once again visited Rietvlei parkrun and there was an astounding turnout!
