EMPD confiscates illegal cigarettes worth R150 000 in Rosettenville

A man (30) was arrested for possession of illicit cigarettes worth R150 000 in Rosettenville.

A 30-YEAR-OLD male suspect was arrested after being found in possession of illicit cigarettes valued at R150 000 in Rosettenville on September 16.

Acting on a tip-off, the EMPD Drug Enforcement Unit members raided a business on South Rand Road.

During the raid, the suspect was found sorting 550 different brands of cigarette cartons and was apprehended.

The trader, who failed to produce a receipt as proof of purchase, was handcuffed and taken to Moffat View Police Station.

He faces charges of possession and dealing in illicit cigarettes.

The suspect is expected to appear in the relevant magistrate’s court soon.
