MEMBERS of the Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department (EMPD) Speed Unit arrested seven speeding drivers between October 25 and 27.
The arrests were made on the N17, N12 and N3 freeways situated in Elsburg, Alberton, Boksburg and Germiston.
On October 25, on the N17 freeway between Guthrie and Heidelberg bridges, a 43-year-old male driving a grey Hyundai accent was arrested for clocking 165km/h. He reported to being late for work.
While on October 26, two male drivers were arrested for clocking 166 and 213km/h in Boksburg area.The first 40-year-old speedster in a blue Audi A4 alleged that he was late for work, when stopped while driving at 213km/h.
The second male speedster in a grey Nissan Qashqai reported not to have a reason for speeding, clocked 166km/h on a 120km/h stretch.
On the same Saturday in Alberton, a male speedster in a Golf GTI, who reported to being late, was busted for clocking 164km/h between R59 and Voortrekker off-ramp.
Again on October 27, the EMPD Unit targeted speedsters on N3 South freeway where three drivers were also arrested for excessive speeding.
A 43-year old male driver, who claimed to being late for church, was arrested for clocking a speed of 164km/h.
The two offenders were apprehended for both doing the same speed of 163km/h on a 120km/h route.
All arrested speedsters were charged at Elsburg, Alberton, Boksburg North and Germiston police stations respectively.
They face charges of reckless and negligent driving and are expected to appear in the Germiston, Palmridge and Boksburg magistrate’s courts.
