Couple arrested, among others, for drug dealings

Members of the EMPD Drug Enforcement Unit (EMPD DEU) have arrested five suspects for possession of and dealing in drugs.

A tip-off on narcotics being transported and destined for Alberton resulted in members of the EMPD Drug Enforcement Unit (EMPD DEU) making an arrest in Roodepoort on October 25.

At about 5.10am, a Toyota sedan, driven by a 34-year-old foreign male national, alongside a female passenger, was pulled over for a search at Herbert Street.

Upon searching the vehicle, the EMPD members recovered 700 small green knotted plastic bags with two extra packets containing heroin.

The heroin is valued at R100 000.

Drugs and cash confiscated from a pair in the south of Katlehong.

The couple was escorted to Roodepoort Police Station.

On October 25, while on a crime prevention patrol in Brackendowns, the DEU team stopped and searched a 26-year-old male.

He was found idling his vehicle at the corner of Andries and Kliprivier roads.

The unit recovered 15 ziplocks of khat, nine rocks, 12 knotted plastics of crystal meth, one medium knotted plastic bag of cocaine valued at R10 500 and one box of empty ziplocks.

They also confiscated one digital portable scale and two cellphone chargers containing some of the drugs uncovered.

The suspect, a foreign national, was handcuffed and taken to Brackendowns Police Station.

Two male suspects, aged 24 and 33, were also found on their premises preparing four packets of paper-wrapped khat, 34 ziplocks with paper-wrapped dagga, two full and one and a half Mandrax tablets.

Confiscated narcotics, the Brackendowns suspect, converted cellphone chargers and drug utensils.

They were also arrested by the unit, in Katlehong, following a tip-off.

The pair, in possession of the narcotics valued at R1 600, were taken to the Katlehong Police Station.

The arrested suspects were charged with possession of and dealing in illicit substances, at the respective police stations.

They are expected to appear in Palm Ridge and Roodepoort magistrate’s courts soon.
