Alleged fuel thiefs arrested in Alberton

SAPS arrested four suspects believed to be involved in stealing fuel.

Police officers from Alberton SAPS arrested four suspects in Alberton on November 11 in an intelligence-driven operation. The suspects were arrested stealing fuel from a fuel supply line. Three of the suspects are foreign nationals. According to Capt Manare Ramotshela, media liason officer from Alberton SAPS, information from the scene indicated that a South African resident orchestrated the crime in question, taking the suspects from the country of residence and then taking them back once the crime was committed. “This person keeps on changing the suspects he uses,” says Ramotshela.

“If the suspects receive bail from the court of law it is always difficult for the investigating officer to find them and the court will have to remove the case from the role. The suspects would be out of the country and finding them is a long process.”

The vehicle used by the suspects to carry the stolen goods was confiscated by SAPS and will be booked as an exhibit. Police are still determining whether the vehicle is stolen. All other materials used by the suspects will be in possession of SAPS until further notice.
