Eight people were arrested from December 14 to 16 by the EMPD Speed Enforcement Unit officers in the Alberton and Germiston areas.
From Saturday to Monday, the South African Police Service, Johannesburg Metro Police Department, Tshwane Metro Police Department, Gauteng Traffic Police Members, EMPD Speed Enforcement Unit, Public Order Policing, Specialised Task Team, Benoni, Daveyton, Duduza, Nigel, KwaThema, Springs, Kingsway and Tsakane precinct officers, nabbed 57 wrongdoers in Alberton, Germiston, Olifantsfontein, Tsakane and Tembisa areas for excessive speeding and driving while intoxicated, and two for being in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
Three suspects were arrested on the N12 freeway direction east by the R59 bridge, another four suspects were caught on the N3 freeway direction south by Rand Airport off-ramp and on the N3 freeway direction south by Grey avenue off ramp one person was arrested.
All arrested drivers caught on those 120km/h zones are males driving sedans, minibus, bakkie and motorcycles, between the ages of 25 and 42, citing different reason, like late for work and rushing home.
They were nabbed for clocking between 162km/h and 189km/h, before charged with reckless and negligent driving at Alberton and Germiston police stations.
