EMPD arrests 61 drivers in Alberton over festive season

A total of 834 traffic fines were issued over the festive season.

According to statistics released by EMPD over the festive season, a total of 59 drivers were nabbed for drunken driving, 29 in Tokoza and 30 in the Alberton area.

Between December 1 and January 5, EMPD issued a total of 834 traffic fines to people in Alberton and the surrounding areas. One person lost his life in a hit-and-run incident on December 14 on the corner of Potgieter Street and Old Vereeniging Road.

Two suspects were arrested for offences unrelated to driving under the influence.

One was arrested for the illegal possession of dagga and another for having a fraudulent licence disc.
