WATCH: CPS Security warns residents against a new criminal trend

“Once your gate has opened it will stay open, making it easy for criminals to access,” said Tyrone van der Merwe, sales director at CPS Security.

CPS Security wants to warn residents against a new criminal trend and they want to ask residents to be more vigilant as crime is on the rise.

An armed robbery occurred in Homeria Street in Meyersdal on Janaury 21 at around 12.50am.

“As per the video footage, suspects are placing tape over your IR sensors for your gate.

“Once your gate has opened it will stay open, making it easy for criminals to access,” said Tyrone van der Merwe, sales director at CPS Security.

Four positively armed males wearing dust masks and overalls got away with laptops and cellphones.

CPS Security is still on the lookout for the suspects who drove a blue Volkswagen with registration number CF19GTGP.

Officers from CPS Security reacted to an armed robbery in Phillips Street in Verwoerdpark on January 21 where five robbers tied up a family and fled with electronics and jewellery.

The suspects gained entry from the highway side and they were armed with one firearm, a knife and a crowbar.

“We have had an increase in crime in Jim Fouche and Phillips streets in the past few weeks.

“Please ensure you are arming your alarm systems and report any suspicious activity to us immediately.

“The incidents are occurring at night between 9pm and midnight,” said Van der Merwe.

If spotted, contact CPS Security on 011 024 2426 or Brackendowns SAPS on 011 617 5600.
