Motorist arrested for venting frustration on EMPD members

Members of the Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department (EMPD) Speed Enforcement Unit apprehended and charged a 62-year-old motorist for crimen injuria on February 24.

Members of the Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department (EMPD) Speed Enforcement Unit apprehended and charged a 62-year-old motorist for crimen injuria on February 24.

While EMPD members were monitoring Swartkoppies Road between Hennie Alberts and Vermouten streets, they were approached by the male driver.

The motorist who drove a black BMW sedan was reported to have called officers names, brandished a middle finger and drove off.

Kobeli Mokheseng, EMPD spokesperson, said: “Metro police officers gave chase and the unfriendly motorist was cornered on top of the R59 bridge on Swartkoppies Road towards Alberton CBD.

“He was read his rights and handcuffed, before being marched to Brackendowns police station.”

The arrested suspect is expected to appear in the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court soon.
