Five offenders were apprehended for speeding by Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department’s (EMPD) Speed Enforcement Unit between March 7 and 8.

During their operation, on the N3 freeway by Grey Avenue, the EMPD Speed Enforcement Unit arrested four male offenders.

A 31-year-old male on a blue Honda motorcycle, reportedly claiming to be late for work, was apprehended for clocking 196km/h instead of 120km/h.

Kobeli Mokheseng, EMPD spokesperson, said: “The remaining three speedsters were registered between 165km/h and 191km/h, cited reasons such as running late, with one stating to be travelling to Durban. The lawbreakers were taken to Alberton Police Station.”

Again on March 8, the EMPD members arrested a 25-year-old male speedster who claimed to be rushing to work.

Mokheseng told the RECORD that the speedster was apprehended on the R59 Sybrand van Niekerk freeway for clocking 173km/h. The speedster was taken to Brackendowns Police Station.

All five are facing charges of reckless and negligent driving. They are expected to appear in the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court.
