Cigarettes confiscated at a store in Verwoerdpark

The suspect will soon appear in the Palm Ridge Magistrate's Court.

An intelligence-driven operation was carried out on May 5 at a store in Verwoerdpark, which was allegedly selling tobacco products.

Alberton SAPS has confirmed that a 24-year-old foreign national was nabbed after selling these products at the store.

The arrest comes after the members went through a pile of stock and found tobacco products which they then confiscated.

According to regulations, tobacco products are not to be sold during the lockdown. Capt Manare Ramotshela, a spokesperson for Alberton SAPS, told the RECORD that upon his arrest the suspect was informed of his Constitutional rights before being taken into custody.

“He was then taken to the police station for further investigations,” he said.
