Petrol thief nabbed minutes after filling up

Suspect prevented from escaping after he filled his car with R700 worth of stolen petrol.

ALBERTON – On March 31 at 20:55 a suspect went to a filling station and decided to fill his vehicle with petrol to the value of R700.06 and presented a card to the petrol attendant.

While the attendant was busy processing the card, the suspect started driving out of the filling station, not even waiting for the attendant to close the fuel cap.

Fox Security were passing by Ring Road East and noticed that the petrol attendant screaming at the driver of the vehicle. A Fox Tactical Officer managed to block off the exit and forced the black City Golf back into the filling station.

Members of the public also got involved and assisted with blocking the vehicle from behind. The driver of the vehicle was arrested and detained at Alberton SAPS for theft.

The suspect appeared at Palm Ridge Court on April 1. The outcome has not been noted as of April 3. The outcome will be communicated in a future issue.
