Katlehong residents without water for a weekend

Residents were without water on the last weekend before the national voting day and the Ekurhuleni Municipality were not aware of the problem.

KATLEHONG – Residents resorted to fetching water from a water tent at Moshoeshoe, as they had no water from the morning of Friday 2 till the afternoon of Saturday April 3.

People lining up to fetch water using buckets, cooking pots and other containers were seen although the municipality did not know about it.

Keneilwe Tshehle and Gigi Nxasane said they were not notified that there would water interruptions. They were not even sure if there might have been a burst pipe somewhere.

Around 13:00 people were coming from their homes carrying containers as they could not wait any longer.

It is still not clear what could have caused the lack of water but many sections of Katlehong were affected.

“This is the first time something like this has happened since I started staying here. Usually we are notified if there will not be water available in the area.

“Because of that, I could not cook or wash my clothes and work suit as I planned to,” Nxasane added.
