ON July 3 CPS received a call from their control room informing them that a community meber was involved in an attempted hijacking by suspects in a black Mercedes C180.
A partol unit saw the vehicle in Michelle Avenue, and when the suspects knew they were being followed, they made a U-turn. Previously the vehicle had been reported and the number plate matched what the community member provided.
Two tactical vehicles followed the vehicle closely to Alrode. The vehicle was driving at a high speed.
The vehicle made its way to the industrial side of Alrode, while the suspects threw objects out of the vehicle. During the chase, the vehicle went to Potgieter Street towards Natalspruit. The CPS stopped the vehicle at a local garage. One suspect jumped out and started running. Tactical members ahead apprehended all three of the suspects shortly afterwards. Brackendowns SAPS arrived and assisted in their capture.
The suspects were taken into custody and charged for possession of a stolen vehicle and possession of housebreaking implements.
It was also noted that the vehicle was stolen from Klerksdorp.
