Three men hold SPCA staff at gunpoint

HELD AT GUNPOINT: Three unidentified males robbed the Alberton branch of the SPCA on Monday.

ALBERTON – Staff members at the Alberton SPCA were held at gunpoint on July 14.

“Luckily no one was harmed, however the staff members are in a state of shock, because of the robbery and the way in which they were abused by the robbers,” Catherine Rollinson, acting chairperson of the SPCA Alberton, said.

Staff members were forced to hand over wallets, jewellery and cellphones to three unidentified males. “The Alberton SPCA has also suffered a huge monetary loss and goods from our second-hand shop were stolen,” Catherine added.

The police do not have any suspects at this time.

The SPCA closed early on July 14 and is not open for the public on July 15.

“We apologise for any inconvenience that this may cause, but the health and security of our staff is of the utmost importance to us,” said Catherine. The SPCA will be open again on Wednesday July 16 at 8:00.
