Suspect arrested on charges of abduction
Police have confirmed an arrest of a man on charges of abduction.
ALBERTON – A minor who has been missing for a while has recently been found in the company of an older man.
The man has appeared in court on charges of abduction and statutory rape.
The minor is now residing with family members and has not been returned home because her parents are under investigation.
According to someone close to the family, who would prefer to stay anonymous, she had been planning to run away from home for the past five months because of her unfavourable home circumstances. Notes in her diary make mention of her parents using drugs.
During an interview, the source said that she had contact with someone almost 20 years her senior and they planned to run away together. The source also said the man whom she had contact with, is involved with a satanic group. When arrested he had pornographic material in his possession.
The source said that on the evening she went missing, she waited for her parents to go to bed and slipped out at about 01:00. She was then picked up by the man.
A friend of the family added that they have been aware that her parents have been using drugs since 2005 and concerned family members have been trying to obtain custody of her and her younger sibling.
