One arrested for attempting to steal a vehicle

The suspect was arrested when he was found in a back room of the property in Fuhri Street.

RANDHART – One of three suspects was arrested on Saturday September 13 when they attempted to steal a white VW Golf from Randhart Shopping Centre in Alberton.

The owner of the Golf noticed activity at her vehicle when she spotted that the vehicle’s bonnet and driver’s door were open with one suspect in the driver’s seat while another one was tampering in the engine. She started screaming and alerting members of the public. One of Fox Security’s Tactical Unit members, who was in the Hardware Store, heard the lady and went to see what was happening.

Two of the suspects fled the crime scene in a vehicle and the third suspect fled on foot. The Fox Security Tactical member and members of the public gave chase after the suspect on foot who ran into a cul-de-sac in Sarah Crescent and jumped over a fence at a building site.

Fox Armed Reaction Officers and the Ekurhuleni Metro Police Crime Task Team surrounded the area where the suspect was last spotted. The Fox Security Tactical member searched the building site in Sarah Crescent and noticed the back fence to a property to Fuhri Street, Randhart was bent. On investigating the Fox Security member found the suspect hiding in a back room of the property in Fuhri Street. He was arrested and detained at Alberton SAPS for attempting theft of motor vehicle and malicious damage to property.
