ALBERTON – Three black men were arrested at 11:45 on November 12 after a business robbery took place in Second Avenue, Alberton North.
EMPD received information that four suspects would rob a cash-for-scrap-business in Second Avenue. After EMPD received this valuable information they positioned themselves in the vicinity of the business.
Three EMPD task teams, CPS Security and emergency services were on the scene when the RECORD arrived.
According to the EMPD media liaison three task teams where involved in the arrest: a Swat Team, the Crime Task Team and the K9 unit.
According to their tip-off there should have been four suspects, only three male suspects robbed the business.
The black males aged 21, 26 and 27 stole an undisclosed amount of money and assaulted staff.
As the men made their way out of the building, they were met by three EMPD task teams and CPS Security. They were apprehended and asked to lie down on the ground.
A 9mm pistol was found on the scene. EMPD is waiting on forensics to see if any shots were fired from the gun and if there are serial numbers on the firearm.
The RECORD will publish information relating to the pistol as soon as it becomes available.
A case of business robbery and assault will be opened at the Alberton SAPS.
