Dumping clean-up stuck in red tape

Large amounts of rubble spotted in an open field in Verwoerdpark have caused a stir with local residents.

One of the perpetrators has been issued a fine for illegal dumping by the EMPD and promised to remove the rubble. It remains in the field and has been there for over a month attracting vermin and predators to the area.

This problem has been reported to the Department of Solid Waste by Councillor Bruna Haipel without a positive result. According to her the process has halted because the head of the Department of Solid Waste has retired and been replaced by an acting HoD.

Members of the public who are aware of illegal dumping should report incidents to 086 054 4300 and receive a reference number. If nothing is done; make contact with ward councillors and CCA managers to take the matter further.
