Stats: EMPD gives an overview of of how they kept us safe over the festive period.

The N12 was the scene of another accident that claimed the life of one driver over the festive period.

While most people enjoyed some time off over the festive season, EMPD has been working to keep us safe. They have shared some statistics after the festive period.

According to EMPD’s festive season round up there was a total of 23 accidents recorded, 17 of these took place in Alberton and 6 accidents were recorded in Tokoza.

Of these accidents only one fatality occurred. The accident took place on December 30 at 08:30, on the N12 East at the Voortrekker turn off. Three vehicles were involved and the driver of a Kombi was killed instantaneously.

EMPD also arrested 25 drivers who were driving under the influence of alcohol in Alberton, and five in Tokoza.

One arrest was made for speeding.

They attended to seven complaints in Alberton and nine in Tokoza.

They were able to stop and search 227 vehicles and their passengers. A total of 214 fines were issued in Alberton and another 124 in Tokoza.
