ALBERTON – This is what neighbours in New Market told the RECORD on the scene. According to concerned neighbours, they have noticed that the little girl has not been seen in the mornings when her mother leaves for work.
They have notified the police more than once, the first time the police only drove into the complex and left without speaking to anyone.
On Friday, January 22, the police were called again and this time they broke the door of the house to get the little girl out.
Neighbours told the RECORD that the little girl whimpered for them to just open the door and take her away. According to them she was found in clothes that she has been wearing for quite some time.
What the neighbours could not understand, was that a lot of them are mothers and some of them stay home during the day, she could have easily asked them to take care of the toddler.
“She could have just let us know that she had to go to work and needed someone to take care of her little girl,” one neighbour mentioned.
There is always someone at the complex, and there are a few mothers who would have been more than willing to help out a neighbour in need,” the neighbours explained.
The toddler also told neighbours that her mother left her in the house without anything to eat or drink. Police left the little girl at neighbours until the mother returned.
Police have since arrested the mother; she has been charged with child abuse and negligence and her daughter has been taken to a place of safety.
