Looting hits foreign-owned shops in Eden Park

Eden Park is the latest township to be hit by the looting of foreign-owned shops, Gauteng police said.

According to a report by Sowetan LIVE the police received a report that at around 10:00 on Monday, a group of some 20 people tried to loot spaza shops in Eden Park. The group dispersed when police arrived on the scene.

The incident comes after a spaza shop was torched in Alexandra, Johannesburg.

Sowetan LIVE reported, “Lt-Gen Solomon Makgale said police were called and informed that people were attempting to loot a foreign-owned shop in the area.”

Makgale was quoted to have said, “When police arrived, [the looters] fled and left the scene empty-handed.

“Shortly thereafter, we were informed of a spaza shop that was set alight in another area of Alexandra.”

Meanwhile, two suspected looters were found shot dead in Langlaagte on Sunday night.
