Residents frustrated with Eskom’s unpredictability

Load shedding was implemented this week to the chagrin of many Alberton residents, not only because of the lack of lights, but due to the council not adhering to the schedule.

Some areas were without power for six hours on January 28, when the schedule indicated a two-hour period. Eskom’s website has stated that an additional 30 minutes is required to switch networks in a way that does not damage the power system.

Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality has issued a new load shedding schedule for Alberton and Thokoza.

Should residents be experiencing load shedding not in line with the programme, EMM spokesperson Themba Gadebe recommended they report the dates and times to the municipality to clarify whether they experienced load shedding or unplanned power outages.

Residents can call the municipality hotline 086 054 3000 to report problems in their area.
