EDEN PARK – “My boyfriend of four months set my house on fire, because I dumped him and chased him out of my house. When he left, he said he was going to show me what he will do to really hurt me. He said he was going to kill me,” said a tearful Vuyo.
It is alleged that while Vuyo and her were sleeping, she was awakend by a very bright light and the smell of smoke. She got up and saw the kitchen on fire and then saw her ex-boyfriend outside. He ran around the house.
She told the RECORD that while she was trying to put the fire in the kitchen out, he broke her bedroom window and threw a burning container on her bed.
“With two rooms on fire, I rushed to save my children and called my neighbours, who responded quickly, but we could not contain the fierce fire. My whole bedroom burnt to ashes and all the kitchen appliances were damaged by the hot flames. I estimate the damage and loss of goods at around R30 000,” she said.
On Saturday morning, Vuyo and her mother left extention 4 to confront the suspect. When questioned by Vuyo’s mother, the disgruntled ex-lover denied setting the house on fire, but said he was only prepared to pay half the money of the damaged goods.
“I was very disappointed with the Fire Department that never arrived after numerous calls. Eden Park SAPS failed to come. I had to go there to report the evil of my ex-boyfriend. To my neighbours, thank you and all the residents of extention 4 who came to help us.
“I don’t know what I saw in this abusive man who almost killed me and my children. I don’t want him to pay for my goods, but I want him behind bars. My children lost all their clothing, school uniforms and books. I am left with what I am wearing. All our important documents like birth certificate and ID book have gone up in flames.”
A case of arson was opened and the suspect appeared in Palmridge Court on March 23.
