One dead in hijacking drama

One suspect has been declared dead at the scene of a hijacking on the corner of Phantom and Joyce streets in Raceview, Alberton. The hijacking occurred at about 10:15 on Thursday April 9.

The RECORD spoke to the owner of Ting-A-Ling nursery school, Tokkie Koekemoer, who said her daughter-in-law, Michelle, had gone outside to bring in a child who was being dropped off, when she heard two gunshots and then two more.

It’s alleged a company vehicle from Dawn Wing Global Express was hijacked and then crashed onto a pavement in front of Alberview Primary School.

The hijacker was shot as he got out of the yellow van, he then proceeded to jump over a nearby fence and fell to the ground.

According to a bystander there were four suspects who ran into a garden and entered the house, where it’s alleged one suspect was shot dead.

According to police spokesperson Lt. Col. Makhubele, they are not sure how many suspects are still at large. One suspect was dropped off to hijack the yellow van. They are unsure how many suspects were in the vehicle they used. EMPD, Alberton SAPS, CPS Security and Fox Security were on the scene, as well as Alberton Victim Support members. Forensics were also called to the scene.
