Report xenophobia with this new hotline

Ekurhuleni Metro Municipality (EMM) has teamed up with Vodacom and they have established a dedicated hotline to report violence relating to xenophobia.

ALBERTON – According to the EMM the hotline has been up and running since April 22. The line is a temporary channel that will be discontinued when xenophobia threats are over.

Residents can dial *134*422# to report xenophobia attacks or any other violence relating to xenophobia.

“This service is free, accessible and the municipality guarantees callers anonymity,” said Themba Gadebe, Ekurhuleni Spokesperson.

The number can be dialled from any phone and is not limited to smart phones or 3G connected phones.

“The caller will need to provide their details, such as the area where there is a threat and a short description of the incident. All reported incidents will be routed by the City’s Customer Relations Management Correspondence Centre to the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD),” Themba added.
