UPDATE: Are they really from EMM?

Residents are urged to be aware that there are still suspects posing as Ekurhuleni Metro Municipality workers.

ALBERTON – The Serrurier family have come across another group of EMM workers, and they do not know if they can trust them anymore. This time around they tried to enter Tiny’s son’s property.

According to Pearl, Tiny’s daughter-in-law had a group of six youths that tried to enter her property.

The group of six youths asked to read her meter and take photos of her property. They were walking and had a letter that was clearly tampered with. The letter had the Municipality’s letterhead at the top, but certain details like the address and the date were altered by hand.

“My address was hastily written at the top. It makes reference to access to a municipal electricity plant and the dates have been scribbled out and today’s dates put in.

“They seemed legit after I spoke to them for some time and called our security, but how many elderly people don’t know what to do?” Pearl asked in frustration.

Before this incident Pearl also says that security in the boomed-off area where they lived, investigated other people who said they do work for the municipality.

“Apparently they are subcontracted to the municipality and are driving in plain clothes in an unmarked car, with nothing but a municipality tag on. I feel this is yet another matter that needs to be taken up with the municipality and how they conduct their business,” she added to the previous incident.

This contradicts previous statements by EMM that states: “Even more importantly, municipal employees and its contractors have a clear identification card, and are always wearing a municipal branded top.”
