EMPD officer gunned down during robbery

In an attempt to help his neighbours during a robbery, an EMPD officer was killed on Saturday afternoon, July 11.

KEMPTON PARKTributes and condolences poured in on social media on Saturday after the tragic death of metro police officer, Martiens Bann, Kempton Express reported

Bann died when he was shot trying to help his neighbours on Flamboyant Street in Edleen who were being robbed.

At least five suspects had been arrested in connection with his murder and the armed robbery.

According to Supt Wilfred Kgasago, metro police spokesman, the officer went out of his Flamboyant Street house when the robbery took place across the road from his house. He was gunned down.

Bann would have retired at the end of September after many years of service, first in the traffic police and later in the metro police.
