EMM fixes sewage leak in 48 hours

Appelgrein residents had to deal with a smelly problem at the end of July.

ALBERTON – Residents of a house in Appelgrein Street had a severe sewage leak from Wednesday, July 29.

The residents were unable to enter or leave their house without walking through the sewage. The leak ebbed and flowed depending on how many people in the area were at home and using the plumbing system. In the afternoon, when the majority of people were at home, the smell would make it impossible to make food in the kitchen which is located just above the leak.

The house’s residents were also unable to use their own bathroom or plumbing.

The family reported the problem to the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality (EMM) and the Water and Sanitation Department is subsequently reported to have fixed the leak on Friday, July 31.

“Residents are encouraged to report complaints without delay so that they are allocated to teams speedily,” said EMM spokesperson Themba Gadebe.
