Follow-home robbers strike business in Florentia

Reports indicate that a woman was returning from withdrawing cash, believed to be in the thousands, from a bank in Alberton Boulevard.

A RESIDENTIAL business, in Du Plessis Road, Florentia, was robbed of an undisclosed amount of money and valuables this afternoon during the lunch-hour.

When she arrived at the business premises three men in a blue Volvo stopped. Two armed men followed her inside while the third man remained in the driver’s seat.

Francois Gouws, a Fox Security response officer, said the other employees tried pressing the panic button when they realised what was happening. “One of the employees was busy with a conversation with her husband. She left the phone on the table which led to her husband phoning the police as he gathered what was going on.”

Several security companies including CPS Security and Fox Security as well as the police and the National Paramedical Services quickly rushed to the scene but the robbers had already fled.

Matthew Callow, a CPS Security tactical response officer, said an employee tried chasing after the the robbers but he was unsuccessful and they managed to get away.

“The men could speak English well. The vehicle registration number that we have is false.”

Cellphones, laptops and jewellery are reported to have also been taken during the robbery.
