Alberton Lions do vision screening at Manzini Primary

Going out into communities to change the lives of others is what the Alberton Lions Club is all about.

ALBERTON – On Wednesday, September 2, five members from the Alberton Lions Club conducted vision screening at Manzini Primary School in Katlehong. With the aid of a Spot Vision Screener, owned by Lions District 410B, they were able to test a group of 50 learners and identified nine who needed to be seen by an optometrist for a full eye examination.

The Spot Vision Screener is a state of the art, handheld, portable device, designed to help users quickly and easily detect vision issues on patients from as young as six months through to adulthood. This can change the course of a child’s school career, and help them obtain the spectacles they need to succeed whilst studying and preparing for their future.

The learners who need a full eye examination will be taken to Narindi Jansen Optometrists, who have kindly sponsored these tests free of charge. Alberton Lions Club will then donate glasses to the learners, using the services of Lions Operation Brightsight (visit https://www.lionnet.org.za/lobs.htm for more information).

Over the next few weeks and months, the club hopes to continue providing the service to more learners from other schools in the Katlehong area. If you would like more information about the Alberton Lions Club, contact Lindy at albertonlionsclub@gmail.com
