ON Tuesday, January 12, an 84-year-old woman who is on holiday from abroad, was attacked in her daughter and son-in-laws home in Linmeyer.
“We were going to a church meeting but my mom wasn’t feeling well so decided to stay behind. I phoned her at 19:10 to see if she was fine, she said she was,” said the woman’s daughter.
Between 19:15 and 19:45, three armed men broke into the house by removing the garden gate from its rails, breaking the security gate and knocking down the front door. “I was praying when I thought I heard something. They found me and shouted, saying they wanted gold. One of the men pulled my wedding ring off and pushed me to the floor. Every time I tried to lift my head he hit me in the face,” she the 84-year-old who was thrown down some steps and couldn’t stand up.
The men emptied all the drawers in the house into duvet covers and filled a suitcase. They also took electrical items and a bank card, from which they cleared the account.
“Once everything was quiet and my mom thought they’d gone, she managed to get up and press the panic button. Stallion Security came and they phoned the SAPS.
“We arrived home awhile later and panicked as soon as we saw the police and security vehicles outside our home. Those few seconds were like hours until we found out mom was hurt but alive. We took her to Mulbarton Hospital for X-rays and a check-up. Fortunately she hadn’t any broken bones but lots of bruising,” said the daughter.
Moffatview Police are investigating the armed robbery and assault.
