Living the green life the fun way

IN mid-February the Creative Academy entered into the 2016 Mpact schools recycling competition to retain its title as first place winners in 2015.

“As recycling is a huge focal point in our school, and not only something we do when it is competition time, we have implemented some internal awards to keep it fun for our children. For March, the Orange class was the class that collectively brought in the most recycling. We then had individual prizes for the children who brought in the most overall. Kevin Boden and Tyler Boucher shared first place for March, Ella-Rose Odendaal came in second place and Payton Schriks came in third place. The Purple class collectively brought in the most recycling for April and Shiloh De Klerk was our overall winner coming in first place. Payton was second, and Seth and Ryan Thompson shared third place,” says Jenna Axsel, from Creative Academy.

In three months, they have collected 4.4 tons of paper, just over the half way mark for their goal of eight tons to be reached by the end of September.

“We are super proud of each and every person who is contributing to saving our environment on a daily basis. Thank you for your contribution,” Jenna adds.

For anyone in their private capacity or business who would like to donate their paper to the school, contact Jenna Axsel on 083 727 3776 or info@creativeacademy.co.za

Jenna says they will gladly collect from the surrounding areas or items can be dropped off at their school.

Items that can be recycled include: all forms of clean, dry paper or cardboard; old telephone directories; newspapers and magazines; shredded paper; old calendars and desk pads; files and the contents; rinsed out milk or juice boxes; flattened cereal boxes and card board boxes.

They also recycle all forms of plastic, which does not count towards the competition. However, feel free to donate your yoghurt tubs, juice bottles, veggie punnets, cold drink bottles, meat trays and the like. (Please ensure items are rinsed before donated otherwise they cannot be used).

“Let’s keep this good thing going… please encourage your children to think green,” Jenna says.
