Bumper to Bumper campaign strikes again

EMPD Bumper to Bumper find 81 vehicles unfit for use on public roads.

An EMPD Bumper to Bumper operation found 81 vehicles unfit for use on public roads.

In its quest to greatly reduce the number of vehicles posing danger to road users, the EMPD re-visited Katlehong, Palmridge, Thokoza and Zonkizizwe roads on the hunt for unroadworthy vehicles whereupon not less than 250 vehicles were stopped and checked with 81 found unfit to be operated on our public roads.

The special operation, which took place on Tuesday, September 13, between 06:00 and 14:00, targeted Sontonga, Yende, K147/M7, Khumalo, Hospital, Kgotso, Celtis and Mercury roads in Katlehong, Thokoza, Phola Park and Zonkizizwe.

Sixty-three vehicles ended up in the EMPD pound in Alberton while 18 were discontinued and their licence discs confiscated and instructed to drive at the maximum speed of 30km/h to the places of repair.

The impounded and discontinued vehicles included mini-bus taxis, LDVs, SUVs, four-ton trucks and private sedans.

Issued by: Lieutenant Colonel Wilfred Kgasago, EMPD Spokesperson.
