A MAN driving a silver-grey BMW with false registration places NJOMY GP, turned Eden Park into a life-threatening movie-like scene on Saturday October 23 at 17:00.
While being chased by the police in Lancia Street, the driver with two accomplices turned into Ferrari Street and stopped at the high school gate – where he got out of his car and started to shoot at the pursuing cops. SAPS returned fire and the man was shot in the leg and then arrested.
The three men had earlier stopped a car in Lancia Street near Supa-dupa Supermarket and shot at it. The BMW driver had pointed his firearm at the driver of another vehicle, demanding his cell phone.
“While my son was explaining how he had a firearm pointed at him by a man in the BMW, that car suddenly stopped at my gate. The gun-wielding driver said he wanted his cell phone which was stolen near a church – and kept pointing his firearm at me and my wife; then he just drove off,” said Eddie Jackson of Lancia Street.
The BMW driver then proceeded to Studebaker Street, where the driver shot a man and grabbed a six-month-old baby – and then drove off with the baby.
It’s alleged by the mother of the baby, that the BMW had earlier arrived at the house; with the driver also there demanding his cell phone, which he claimed was stolen from him near a church.
“When the BMW arrived the second time, the driver came in with his firearm in hand. He then kicked open our door and fired two shots at a man who was standing in our house. He kept shouting: ‘Where is my cell phone?’.
“The driver grabbed my six-month-old baby, gave it to one of his two passengers and drove away,” said the baby’s mother, who didn’t want to be named.
SAPS were summoned and while driving to the scene, they encountered the BMW in Lancia street – when they tried to stop it, the driver just raced off and only stopped in Ferrari Street, where shots where exchanged.
The driver was shot in the leg and taken to hospital, where he’s under police guard. The baby was handed back to the mother at the scene of the shooting – and the man who was shot in the house, was also rushed to hospital.
Two cases of pointing of a firearm and two attempted murder cases, were opened at Eden Park SAPS.
