ALBERTON – Sarah Park (21) formed part of 308 students who achieved 75 per cent and higher in their first year at the University of Johannesburg (UJ).
This was the first category and the second was top achiever in a faculty. Sarah was first in her Faculty of Foundation Phase Education reaching 84 per cent. Sarah matriculated at Alberton High School, a school which is one of the top 10 feeder schools in Gauteng. She would like to finish her studies, which will take four years and another three to achieve her Honours and eventually receive her Doctorate in Education.
“I would like to go overseas because I have a British passport and hopefully teach there and become a principal of a school,” said Sarah.
In school Sarah never had an idea of what she wanted to do. She took a gap year in which she explored many fields. She travelled to Thailand and assisted at a pre-school; that is when she realised she wanted to teach.
“Working with children is awesome for me. Advice I would give to other students is to not worry about the stress. Choosing subjects in school is very difficult. Taking a year is the best idea for learners to explore, discover and just find yourself. Once you have found out what it is you want to do, take it from there.”
Sarah has a younger brother and sister, to who she is a role model. Some of her family members also studied further.
“I love quotes so much and this one really inspires me: This is the beginning of anything you want. It is your choice whether you go forward or backward,” ended Sarah.
