Following rigorous group activities and extensive research carried out by primary school learners from Tembisa, a competition to promote the conservation of wetlands was held under the theme: Wetlands for Disaster Risk Reduction.
The competition took place on Friday, February 17, when learners took turns on stage with colourful and detailed educational presentations, displaying the importance of conserving wetlands to avoid natural disasters.
Ekurhuleni’s member of the mayoral committee (MMC) for the Environmental Development Portfolio, Councillor Ndosi Shongwe, together with the deputy minister for Arts and Culture, Ms Rejoice Mabudafhasi, commemorated World Wetlands Day with the community of Tembisa.
