THE recent altercation between two parents at the Texamo Spur, in The Glen Shopping Centre, and the subsequent media coverage, has brought the fatal attack on Bradley du Preez (aged 20 at the time) on June 22, 2014, at the Little Eagle Spur, in Alberton, back into focus.
The four men accused of causing his death are due to appear in court again on May 29.

At that time of Bradley’s death, a case of culpable homicide was opened and six suspects, four men aged between 23 and 27, and two women, between the ages of 22 and 27, were arrested. Charges against the women were subsequently dropped.
On that fateful day, Bradley was involved in a scuffle with the group and a fight ensued. The suspects (who were not banned from Spur, like the man in the most recent incident) made their first appearance in the Palmridge Magistrate’s Court on June 24, 2014.
Almost three years later, this case has still not reached a conclusion but instead been hampered by many mistakes on the part of the prosecution and a disturbing number of postponements and issues with interpreters.
“Still no justice has been served for Bradley so the family is frustrated and we just can’t get closure,” says Danny Pringle, the family’s spokesperson.

It has come to light that there were plans to have the charges of murder changed to assault, but this was unsuccessful.
Last year, the RECORD reported on the shocking court proceedings, constant delays and other concerning aspects, such as the video footage being thrown out and the judge having to tell the prosecution to object to certain statements, for example.
“Bradley will never see his daughter grow up and she will never have her father. Nothing will change that and the people who took that from them should be punished, but it doesn’t seem to be happening. We need justice to prevail,” said Pringle.
The last court appearance saw the coroner starting to give details on the autopsy, but the case was again postponed and is set to continue on May 29.
