Security officer gunned down on duty

Piet was shot twice while sitting in his car.

PIET Malesela Moshupya (40), a father, a husband and a man who’s passion was to protect the community, lost his life in the early hours of June 24.

The Special Operations Group (SOG) response officer was on duty and sitting in his car in Laborie Village, Eeuwfees Street, South Crest, when he was shot. A security guard near the complex reported shots fired and SOG and Fox Security’s medical unit (Elowayne Gouws) responded.

“Another SOG vehicle was dispatched after we could not get hold of Piet,” said Du Toit Lambrecht, manager of SOG. He said Piet managed to drive 120 metres, into the complex, before passing out. When the security companies arrived they immediately contacted National Paramedics. Piet was treated on scene and transported to a nearby hospital.

“Despite all efforts, the officer died away shortly after arriving at Netcare Union Hospital,” said Chantal Peel, from National Paramedics.

It was determined that nine shots had been fired at Piet, two of which hit him.
