Elderly woman robbed off money

"We urge residents not to have large sums of money in their possession as this attracts criminals."

Police are investigating a case of house robbery after an elderly woman (79) was robbed of an undisclosed amount of money on Tuesday evening in Snyman Avenue in Wright Park.

It is alleged the woman had withdrawn a large amount of money during the day and only the friend and tenant who accompanied her to the ATM knew about this.

She was therefore shocked when two men broke into her house demanding the money from her.

Springs police spokesman Captain Johannes Ramphora says it is alleged the woman was injected and drugged.

“We are still waiting for the medical reports to prove this.

“The case was only opened the following morning and police are still trying to put together the pieces of the story because the victim seemed confused at the time.

“We urge residents not to have large sums of money in their possession as this attracts criminals.

“We are calling on anyone with information on the matter to come forward, or to contact the Springs police on 011 365 5700,” he says.
