The mishap took place on the corners of Vermeulen and Wildebees streets, Verwoerd Park and water gushed out for hours, causing water pressure and availability issues for many residents.

WATCH:

A supervisor from Vodacom, the company responsible, walked up and talked to the RECORD after he saw us filming and taking photographs.

WASTEFUL: Many litres of water streams out of the damaged pipe.

According to the man, they followed all procedures and got plans to say where all the pipes were situated so as to avoid them, but if this was indeed the case, it was not sufficient to prevent the pipe being damaged and save all the water that was wasted.

RECORD contacted the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality for comment but was simply asked for a reference number, in spite of giving them all pertinent information about the incident.
