PALMRIDGE Combined School is proud of its team of affluent and outstanding speakers who participate in public speaking competitions in the Ekurhuleni district.
But one learner stands on the zenith and is regarded as ‘king of speech’. His name is Wonderful Khumalo who is a Grade 12 learner.
Wonderful represented his school at the Ekurhuleni Reproductive Health Public Speaking Competition held at the Thokoza Youth Centre on February 6.
The topic up for debate was Let our action count. It is my right to know my status. Prevention is my responsibility. A total of 14 schools contested for ultimate glory and here Wonderful obtained the first position at this level, granting himself an opportunity to represent the Thokoza customer care area at the Alberton Civic Centre for the Mayoral Grand Finale on February 14.
A total of 10 customer care areas contested this event and once again Wonderful obtained the first position, which made him the overall winner in Ekurhuleni South.
His mentor, educator Valentia Ramoetlo-Mphasa, said she regards him as the ultimate ‘king of speech’. Wonderful walked away with the following prizes for both regional and grand finale levels: three trophies, four certificates, handy reproductive health hampers, a complementary Lenovo tablet and an additional amount of R1 000 courtesy of Old Mutual.
“We are very proud of this learner who is academically also doing very well. All of our learners and educators are proud of him. He is rightfully called ‘king of speech’. On February 10, 2017, he also competed against 13 schools and obtained the second position,” said the principal Hamaraj Singh. “Congratulations boy!”
