Police station doesn’t stop shop robbers

Robbers break in across from Eden Park police station.

BELIEVE it or not. Three weeks ago thieves targeted the Eden Park Police Station, where they stole computers, monitors, laptops and cellphones only to be let out on bail paid for by their “transporter”.

Exactly a week afterwards there was a break-in at a chisa-nyama shop right opposite the police station’s gates.

On March 12, thieves broke into Phat-Boyz Takeaways opposite the Eden park police station.

It is alleged by the owner, Clayton Myburgh, that the thieves broke the extractor chimney and entered the shop through the hole.

“They stole all the meat (chicken), Tropika, juices, cigarettes, a computer and the cash after breaking the till in pieces. It seems impossible that people can pull such a big job right in front of the police station and nobody saw or noticed anything. For this, whether right or wrong, I blame the drug dealers. They encourage the youth to do these burglaries because they exchange the goods for drugs and even transport the goods to be sold elsewhere. Everybody knows the drug dealers, thieves and the transporters. Something must be done,” said Myburgh, who opened a case with the Eden Park SAPS.
