MTHUNDEDZI Ganca (37) was sentenced to two life sentences for the kidnapping, rape and murder of a four-year-old girl last year.
Ganca appeared in the Johannesburg High Court last week for the crimes committed on January 1, 2016, in Palmridge.
On Thursday, March 15, Captain Emmanuel Jele of Eden Park Criminal Investigation Department (CID) was pleased with a job well done by Constable Gleden Phala, who investigated the kidnapping, rape and murder of the little girl.
“On New Year’s Day 2016, Ganca kidnapped the girl at about 4pm and took her to his room where he raped and killed her. He was later arrested and appeared in the Palmridge Magistrate’s Court.
“During my investigation, I asked him why he raped the little girl and he just said the devil told him to do it. “When I asked him why he had to kill her, he said he was afraid the girl might talk and he was scared what the community would do to him,” said Constable Phala.
Captain Jele said the case had been dragging for a long time and was referred to the Johannesburg High Court.
Ganca’s final appearance was on March 15, when he was found guilty and sentenced two years for kidnapping, a life sentence for rape and a life sentence for murder, which will run concurrently.
The court added that the accused must be encouraged to join sex offender’s programmes and engage in psychotherapy with a clinical psychologist while in prison.
He was also regarded unfit to own a firearm.
“Throughout his trial, Ganca never said a word. Even during his final appearance, when asked whether he had anything to say, he just kept quiet and never uttered a word.
“Although the family will always miss their little girl, I am happy that the four-year-old girl’s family could see justice has been served and that Ganca will remain behind bars for a very long time,” the constable added.
