Missing jewellery worth R75 000 found in domestic worker’s headscarf

The suspect worked as a domestic worker in Meyersdal.

BRACKENDOWNS SAPS arrested a female on charges of theft on June 4.

The suspect worked as a domestic worker in Meyersdal. Police received a complaint from her employer that the employer lost six rings worth R75 000 total and suspected the domestic worker who worked in her house twice a week.

Police arrived at the house and requested the suspect to remove the headscarf she was wearing. As she removed it the missing rings fell out of the headscarf and on to the floor. The suspect was consequently arrested and taken to Brackendowns SAPS for detention. The suspect was set to appear in court on June 5 for her first appearance.

The SAPS would like to appeal to the community to do background checks on potential employees. Make sure they have documentation, for example, a passport or ID document, and get the particulars of their next of kin in case of an emergency.
