Suspected hijackers in Alrode foiled by police

Brackendowns police officers chase down would-be hijackers in a stolen Polo.

BRACKENDOWNS SAPS members were involved in a chase after attempted hijackers in Alrode South on September 6.

Police officers on patrol noticed suspects in a black Volkswagen Polo attempting to block a white bakkie. Switching on their blue lights the officers set off in pursuit of the two vehicles.

Noticing the blue lights, the driver of the Polo attempted to make a run for it. Police followed the vehicle on the highway until the driver of the Polo lost control before the Kliprivier exit and crashed into the sidewalk.

The two suspects fled on foot into bushes and got away from police. The black Polo was recovered by police. It was reported stolen in Mondeor in August.

Anyone with information that can assist police in finding the suspects can contact Captain Hendry Meyer on 011 617 5620.

According to Sergeant Lindi Moloi, spokesperson for Brackendowns SAPS, Alrode South is a known problem area. The community is urged to be vigilant and check their surroundings. If you notice anything suspicious drive to the nearest filling station and only stop there.
