Two dies in N3 northbound accident

Two killed on N3 freeway before Berry Marais road off-ramp after a crash involving two vehicles.

TWO adult male occupants of a light motor vehicle were instantly killed after their vehicle experienced a mechanical breakdown on the N3 northbound freeway almost half a kilometre from Berry Marais road off-ramp on September 17.

While pushing it in the dark, a truck came from behind, crashed on them and their vehicle. Two were instantly killed and the third person survived unharmed. The occupants of the truck escaped with no injuries.

City of Ekurhuleni`s Disaster and Emergency Management Services (DEMS) rescue teams from Vosloorus, received the call at 10.23pm on September 17 and promptly responded to the scene.

On arrival, two lifeless male patients were found lying next to the road and the wrecked light motor vehicle pushed a couple of meters away from the point of impact. Upon scene assessment, the two were declared dead by local paramedics. The third person escaped unharmed.

An inquest docket has been opened by Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) officers. N3 northbound had to be closed for the duration of the scene operation.
